Multicultural Week Highlights

Buon giorno, nǐ hǎo, goedendag, gozaimasu, shalom, hola, god dag, salut… to all!

Every year, during Multicultural Week, the Language Department endeavours to bring greater cultural awareness to Newman College through small events that celebrate the blessing of diverse cultures. Multicultural Week historically has been about celebrating individuals that have come from all over the world, as they bring their cultures, values and beliefs to this multi-cultural country of ours – Australia. As Australians we are proud to accept and embrace these differences.

This year throughout Multicultural Week, the student and staff at Newman College have enjoyed a variety of engaging events, including;

  • Viewing a Japanese Anime in the Auditorium
  • Taking part in a battle of culinary speed, in the Chopstick Spaghetti Eating Competition!
  • Had fun dancing and listing to an International Music DJ!
  • Witnessed a Greek Flash Mob with the amazing Miss Battlis , the agile Mr. Bochrinis and the talented little Zorbas!
  • Devoured lots of gelato and pizza!
  • Listened to the rhythm of Brazil – Samba Music by “Sambozzy “

I welcome you to celebrate our unique culture in Australia – Happy Multicultural Week to all!

Saluti

PK-12 Fathers’ Day Celebrations

Last week was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all fathers and father figures in the lives of our community across our three Campuses. Thank you to the many men who came to share these special moments at the Marian and Lavalla Campus Fathers’ Day liturgy and prayer assembly.

Newman Mothers In Prayer: an open opportunity for all our Mums

‘Mums in Prayer’ (MiPs) is coming to a kitchen table near you …

We have a newly formed triplet of Newman Mums who meet around their kitchen table for 1 hour, once a fortnight to pray for their children, their children’s friends, teachers and our wider school community. They are looking for other like-minded Mums who would enjoy praying together in a relaxed environment over coffee (and sometimes cake!). Click here to read more.

Remar Blue Solidarity Camp

In Week 6, 24 Year 11 Remar Blue Rowers (students) embarked on a week-long Solidarity Camp to Mullewa, Western Australia. The camp was designed to help the Rowers understand solidarity through lived experience and helping them to realise that they have the capacity to be the ‘hands and feet of Christ’. Click here to read more and see more photos from the camp.

24:7 Floreat Youth Group

Angela and Sabastian from 24:7 Youth Ministry would like to thank the 22 young people who came along to the Floreat / Wembley Youth Group last Sunday. The Youth Group meets each Sunday night (6.00pm – 8.00pm) in the Parish Centre for all young people in Years 6-12. This week’s Youth Group is going to be another terrific night, and Angela and Sabastian would love to see you all there! Don’t forget to bring 5 friends to win a block of chocolate!

Save the date: Family Quiz Night, Sunday 16 September
This will be a great night of fun, games and free pizza for the whole family! If you are interested in attending, please contact Angela or Sebastian so that they can organise a table for you! Call Angela 0455 960 174 or Sebastian 0403 230 395 for more information.

All parents, guardians and families across our PK-12 College are invited to attend the weekly Thursday morning Mass celebrated by Fr Joseph Tran and Fr Mark Baumgarten.
