Newman Sports Update
ACC Swimming Carnival
Newman College has been competing over the past 2 weeks in the ACC Swimming Age Championships at HBF Stadium. We ended up finishing 6th overall, when considering this is out of 80 Schools, is a fantastic achievement! We are very proud of everyone for their commitment and effort. Many PB’s were broken and no one can question our willingness to give of our best and bring grit and character each day.
Thank you to our outgoing Yr 12’s who have played a major role over the past 6 years in elevating our swimming program back to A Division levels. Special mention to Emily Holland who will leave the College at the end of the year as possibly the School’s best ever swimmer. Among her achievements are; Multiple Guild Age Champion titles, ACC Age Champion titles, School/ACC records, ACC All Star selection and ACC Letters for Swimming (the highest award the ACC can bestow). Thank you Emily for your huge contribution throughout your time at the College and the example and legacy you have left for others to follow.
Although it was a total team effort, recognition must go to the following students who were able to achieve some incredible individual results;
- Madelyn Bertolini Yr 7 Age Champion (1st, 5 gold medals!)
- Emmett McHugh Yr 7 Age Champion (3rd)
- Imogen Boss Yr 10 (Age Champion (3rd)
- Emily Holland Y12 Age Champion (2nd)
- Jake Paynter Yr 11Age Champion (2nd)
We look forward with great anticipation to 2023 as we have the nucleus of a great team. A significant highlight of this year was our Yr 7’s winning the mixed gender relay which is a great sign for the future. With further training and progress we will be confident of mixing it with the best Schools for years to come.
Thank you to our Coaches Ralph McManus and Ms Clark.
