Friday, 24 May 2019

Friday 24 – Saturday 25 May

On the afternoon and evening of Friday 24 May students on the Marcellin Campus (Years 7 – 12) at Newman College will have the opportunity to participate in the St Vincent de Paul Winter Sleep Out.

The theme of the sleepout is homelessness and aligns with the Australian Catholic Bishops’ 2018–2019 Social Justice Statement, titled; A Place to Call Home: Making a home for everyone in our land, which was written in response to the growing problem of homelessness in Australia.

Students participating in the Sleep Out will participate in advocacy activities that explore homelessness in Australia, Catholic Social Teaching and what they can do, as individuals and as a community, to help address the issues connected to homelessness.

Vinnies Sleepouts give you a glimpse into the realities of homelessness by ‘sleeping rough’ for a night to raise awareness and funds for Vinnies homelessness services. This experience challenges your sense of home and offers unique insights into the complex issues faced by people experiencing homelessness.
