Year 7 Special Instrumental Program 2020

The Year 7 Special Instrumental Program is being offered to students enrolled at Newman College for Year 7 2020 who show potential for learning and excelling on a chosen instrument. Entry is based on results of a musical aptitude test and a reference from their current Year 6 teacher.  If selected, students will be given the opportunity to learn a band instrument or voice for free for the duration of the program (one year), as well as attend weekly band and choir rehearsals. Instruments available include flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion, double bass and voice.

All Year 6 students enrolled at Newman College for Year 7 next year will sit a music aptitude test during class on Wednesday 21 August. No preparation is required for the test.

Alternative testing dates for students absent at this time who wish to be considered for a place are invited to attend one of the following times at Newman College Marist Auditorium, Studio 1.

  • Friday 23 August, 3.30pm – 4.00pm
  • Monday 26 August, 3.30pm – 4.00pm (repeat session)

Parents will be informed via letter if their child has been successful in the test, inviting them to the next stage of selection.
