Am I a close contact?

Under the current definitions set out by WA Health Department, Close contacts are defined as follows:

A close contact is defined as:

  • a household member or intimate partner of a person with COVID-19 who has had contact with them during their infectious period
  • someone who has had close personal interaction with a person with COVID-19 during their infectious period, where they spent greater than 4 hours of cumulative contact with them in a residential setting in any 24-hour period, (i.e. a home, accommodation facility) where masks have been removed by both people during the period of contact
  • someone who is directed by WA Health that they are a close contact.

Asymptomatic (no symptoms) close contacts are not required to isolate but do have to follow testing and mask wearing requirements as follows:

  • Take a RAT and obtain a negative result before leaving the house each day.
  • Wear a mask at all times outside of the home (the usual exemptions apply, including for children under 12)
  • Complete the Positive COVID-19 and Household Close Contact Reporting form as soon a positive result is returned or by the latest 10am.
My Child has tested Positive for COVID-19
  • Complete the Positive COVID-19 and Household Close Contact Reporting form as soon a positive result is returned or by the latest 10am.
  • Your child is required to isolate for 7 days after COVID-19 has been confirmed (the day the test is taken is considered day 0).
  • Your child can return to school on day 8 if they do not have symptoms.
  • Your child does not need to return a NEGATIVE test result after having COVID-19.  You can continue to test positive for some weeks after.  As long as you don’t have symptoms after your isolation period you can return to school.
  • Your child is unable to become a COVID-19 close contact for 12 weeks post their end isolation date.

Parents/carers who are regular volunteers, more than once per week, must be vaccinated in accordance with requirements. Parents and carers attending school sites must adhere to physical distancing requirements where possible.
