Leader of Wellbeing Year 10

Mr Luke O’Mara is the current Leader of Wellbeing Year 10. As Luke is preparing to relocate back to Ireland, we are pleased to announce that Mrs Lara Ognenis has accepted the role of Leader of Wellbeing Year 10 for the remainder of 2024. Lara brings her experience as a Head of Year, both at Newman College and at Santa Maria College.

We look forward to welcoming Lara to the Secondary Wellbeing Team and having the opportunity in Week 2 of Term 2 to farewell and thank Luke for his contributions to the Year 10 Cohort and Newman College.

RAC BStreetSmart Excursion

When the students at Newman College reach Year 10, they engage in the Keys for Life Program as part of the Health and Physical Education curriculum. Today, in recognition of our Year 11 students edging close to getting their driver’s licence, they were fortunate to be able to attend the RAC BStreetSmart Presentation at Perth Arena, along with numerous other schools.

This presentation featured a crash scene re-enactment attended by the emergency services. Whilst in attendance, students listened to emergency personnel and others who have been and continue to be directly impacted by road trauma.

Thank you to Mr David Husband, Leader of Wellbeing Year 11, for his organisation of this excursion, and to the Year 11 Pastoral Care Group teachers for their support of our students in attendance at this event.

Leavers Jackets

Our Class of 2024 reached another milestone in the Year 12 calendar – receiving their leavers jackets. Our Year 12 students met with their Pastoral Care Group teachers, Mr Nathan Pereira and Mr Michael Chiera in the Champagnat Chapel to reflect on what the wearing of these jackets signifies the privilege of leading our Newman College Community and the importance of College leadership that embodies our Newman Norms.

The Class of 2024 were grateful for the cool autumn morning and were excited to try their jackets on. Year 12 students can wear their leavers jackets on Mondays and Tuesdays starting in Term 2. Students must wear the College blazers on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
