Newman College Arts Update: Term 1 Week 8

College Production

Little Shop of Horrors

Students in years 8-12 were invited to audition for the College Production Little Shop of Horrors.  37 auditionees danced, and sung solo’s for the audition panel, staff members from the Creative Team.

A select number of the students were ‘called back’ to do an acting audition, and 11 of these were successfully ‘cast’ and 5 were appointed as ‘crew’ within the Company.  Congratulations to all the students who auditioned, particularly for the wonderful attitude you brought to the audition process. If you were unsuccessful at this time we would love to see you back auditioning for the 2022 ( year 5-12) production, yet to be announced, in term 4.

Congratulations to the Little Shop of Horrors ‘Company’  who will commence rehearsals in term 2.

Thank you to director Dixie Johnstone and all the staff who gave several hours of their time to support the casting process.

Twilight Tours

Thank you to all the Arts students and Arts  staff who donated time on the twilight tours to showcase the art program; music, media, visual art.

A particular thankyou to Mrs Goldsmith and the music performers and Ms Yanev, Ms Chandler and the year 9 and 11 media team  who captured some lovely images and interesting footage from the event.

Music Incursion

Last Friday we were very lucky to have been joined by a team of musicians from Musica Viva, who delivered an amazing presentation called ‘Eastwinds,’ showing how music can link with improvisation and storytelling. Students were shown how to harness their creativity by expressing and sharing their experiences through music, and students were given the tools to create and connect with each other through making music on the spot. It was a thoroughly enjoyable presentation, and we owe a big thanks to our Music teacher, Mrs Annette Grayden, for organising.
