Newman News Term 1 Week 2: From the Deputy Principal Wellbeing Secondary

14 Feb 2020

Welcome to the 2020 school year, particularly to our new students and families. I hope you all enjoyed a holy Christmas and a relaxing break. The new school year brings with it several exciting opportunities and events with the first few weeks being very busy.

Week 1 saw our first Principal Assembly involving all students from Years 7 – 12. The assembly was led by our 2020 College Captains as we focused on the year ahead and the opportunities and support available to students.

Upcoming Events

Our Year 7 students will have their retreat day on Friday 21 February. This event is held at the College and sees an alternative timetable run for Year 7 that day. Homework Club

Homework will recommence in 2020 in Week 3. It runs on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3.30pm – 6.00pm in the Siena Learning Centre.

Rules/Policies

Thank you to students and parents for their positive start to the year. It was very pleasing to see a vast majority of our students arrive on the first day in correct uniform and with all of their equipment. Just a few reminders for families:

  • Students have access to the oval and courts at lunch but must wear a hat, and hopefully will have applied sunscreen that morning.
  • Students need to ensure they adhere to the College uniform requirements at all times. Click here for more information.
  • For 2020, the College ICT policy has changed with mobile phones and other smart devices needing to be stored in student lockers from 8.45am – 3.15pm. This information was also made available to students and families at the end of 2019.

If you have concerns for your child or would like to request involvement of the Counselling Team, please contact your child’s Leader of Wellbeing who can liaise with the relevant Counsellor. Students can self-refer to see the Counsellor for their year group by scheduling an appointment through Student Services, by contacting the relevant member of the Counselling Team directly via SEQTA message, or through their Leader of Wellbeing.
