Newman News Term 4 Week 4: From the Leader of Wellbeing Early Childhood

The play-based learning that we foster in our classrooms at the Marian Campus provides opportunities for our students to actively and imaginatively engage with people, objects and the environment. When playing, children may be organising, constructing, manipulating, pretending, exploring, investigating, creating, interacting, imagining, negotiating and making sense of their worlds. Play-based learning looks different across the various year levels, but an observer of play-based learning is likely to see students actively engaged in experiences where choice, wonder and delight are evident in their interactions.

Pre Kindergarten Information Session

This week, we welcomed new and existing families to the campus for an information session on our 2020 Pre Kindergarten program. Thank you to the Primary Social Committee who provided a fantastic morning tea which enabled these parents to interact with one another and ask questions about the program. If any parents were unable to attend, your Orientation Pack is available at the Marian Campus reception. Pre Kindergarten will be offered as a 1-day or 2-day program on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in 2020. Limited places are still available.

Kindergarten Orientation

Those children enrolled at Newman College for 2020 are invited to attend an Orientation Session on Monday 18 November from 9.00am – 10.30am. Children will spend time with their Kindergarten teachers to familiarise themselves with their classroom learning environment while parents will be provided with an Information Session with all the relevant information to ensure a smooth and successful transition for the children into the College. A light morning tea will also be provided for parents by our Primary Social Committee.

Marcellin Award

Congratulations to the following students who received a Marcellin Award in Weeks 3 and 4:

  • Jessica Imonitie, Year 2 Red: For helping to tidy up the undercover area
  • Austin Cumberworth, Year 2 Green: For showing kindness by helping a friend who was alone on the bench

The Marcellin Award at Marian Campus is drawn from submitted nominations each Wednesday morning at Prayer Assembly.

Count Us In

On Thursday, Year 1 and 2 students participated in a nationwide simultaneous song-singing event. The ‘Count Us In’ program sees students from all around Australia sing the same song titled ‘We are’, on the same day, at the same time. Thank you to Ms. Sarah Spencer for her preparation of the students and organisation of the event. It was a fun-filled activity that promotes the value of music education in the lives of children.

Crazy Hair Day – Friday 15 November

On Friday 15 November, all students at the Marian Campus will be invited to donate a gold coin and participate in a Crazy Hair Day to raise both funds and awareness for the Kuya Centre in the Philippines which will be visited by the Year 11 Philippines Immersion group. Every dollar raised on this day will go directly to young people supported by the Kuya Centre. This money does not support the costs of Year 11 students travelling on the immersion. The Kuya Centre is a project of Australian Marist Solidarity. Click here to read more about the Kuya Centre and the work of Australian Marist Solidarity.
