Secondary Update – Term 1 Week 6

Class of 2024 – Year 12 Ball

Friday 1 March was a highly anticipated date on the Year 12 Calendar. The Class of 2024 attended their Year 12 Ball at Fraser’s Restaurant in Kings Park. This cohort, without a doubt, represented the College incredibly well. Their behaviour, manner and the way in which they engaged with one another, College staff and event staff was much appreciated. It was a wonderful way to begin 2024 for this year’s graduating class and to celebrate how far they have come as a cohort. Thank you to Mr Nathan Pereira (Leader of Wellbeing Year 12) for his organisation of this significant occasion for our Year 12 students.

International Women’s Day

Today marks International Women’s Day. This year’s theme is “Inspire Inclusion”. Our Class of 2024 chose this event as one of their legacy projects. There was a sea of purple ribbons across Marcellin Campus which students were encouraged to buy and wear in recognition of International Women’s Day. The money raised from this initiative will be donated to Caritas with the intention of support the ‘empowering women’ initiative. Our Year 12 students supporting this initiative placed positive affirmations on the mirrors in the girls’ bathrooms encouraging the young women in our College Community to see value in who every one of them is.

Minister of Youth Affairs

On Thursday 7 March, we were very fortunate to have the Honourable Sue Mary Ellery (Minister of Youth Affairs) attend the College. Our Year 10 and 11 Guild Representatives and our Year 12 Leaders attended this session. The discussion centred around: some of the challenges facing women in Parliament and society today, and advice for their own individual leadership journeys.

Guild Uniform

On Wednesday 13 March, our Secondary students will engage in Guild Activities organised by the Guild Coordinators. These activities will take place during Extended Pastoral Care time commencing at 10.20am. Students are required to wear their Guild Uniform on this day.

Class of 2025 Ball

The date of the Year 12 Ball is Tuesday 4 February 2025 and will be held at Fraser’s Restaurant in Kings Park. We ask that the Class of 2025 mark their calendars with this date, and keep this date in mind when planning any holidays. Further information will be shared with students and families in Term 3 this year.

SmartRiders and Transperth Services

A reminder to students who use Transperth Services that they must ensure that they tag on or off. Not having money on their SmartRider is not an excuse. There are a few ways that students can add value to their SmartRiders such as:

  • In person at a Retail Sales Outlet or InfoCentre
  • An add-value machine at a station
  • Board a bus with cash
  • Set up and autoload direct debit on the Transperth website

John Henry Newman Learning Hub

From Monday 11 March, the John Henry Newman Learning Hub will be open from 8am. Prior to this time, there is no staff supervision on Marcellin Campus. We ask that parents and guardians refrain from dropping their children off earlier than 8am.
