Newman News Term 2 Week 6 – Latest Sport News

Newman Sienna Netball Club

On the June long weekend, the WA Association Championships will be again held at the Matthews Netball Centre.

Teams from all over the state will be in attendance, it’s the biggest netball carnival in WA and making these teams is a huge achievement. Teams will play seven games over two and a half days with a Grand Final on the Monday if they finish top 2 in their division.

It’s with pride that we have six players from NSNC representing Perth Netball Association on the weekend, including Meg McAullay, Lilly Ding, Audrey Fitzpatrick and Ruby Clay (all students from Newman College).

ACC Cross Country

On Thursday 27 May, over 80 students competed in the ACC Cross Country at Alderbury Reserve.

The team has been training twice a week since Week 1 and numbers at training have been at a record high. This commitment saw many PB’s broken and some outstanding individual results. All runners should be extremely proud of their efforts. We look forward to recognising our individual performers at our next assembly.

Newman was consistent all day and it was our depth of runners that lead to our best result in many years. At the end of the days Newman finished:

  • 3rd in the overall girls aggregate
  • 1st in the overall boys aggregate and
  • 3rd in the overall champion school.

This is a fantastic result as there are over 75 schools competing in the ACC. A big thank you to our head coaches Ben Chamberlain (Ex student) and Mr Diletti for all their passion and hard work in the lead up to the carnival. The students were well prepared and confident as they entered the race. We look forward to consolidating in 2022. Bring on Athletics season.
