Vice Principal – Mr Michael Chiera
It is with deep gratitude and excitement that I return to Newman College as Vice Principal. Having previously spent 12 years at Newman, I feel blessed to have a second opportunity to serve this wonderful community and be a steward of the College’s Catholic identity and Marist spirituality.
In the physical sense, I return to a very different school to the one I left. I am in awe of the wonderful new buildings present on the Marcellin Campus, the John Henry Newman Learning Hub and the Auditorium, and the diverse learning opportunities they enable. The new Lavalla building is currently under construction, with all year groups from Pre-Kindergarten to 12 soon to be located on the one campus. There are certainly exciting times ahead!
I am committed to ensuring that Newman College is a place where all members of the community feel safe and valued. Drawing from diverse leadership experiences across pastoral and teaching and learning domains, I am dedicated to continuing Newman’s school improvement agenda, and working to create a culture of innovation, collaboration, and lifelong learning that empowers both students and staff to ‘let their light shine’ [Matthew 5:16].
I look forward to developing new relationships with students, parents and staff as together, we continue the wonderful legacy of Marcellin Champagnat and the Marist Brothers.
